Default Horrible Day...

I went to get some coolant (the red toyato stuff) and an oil filter from the Toyota dealership. I drove to the closest one (still not that close) I get there and the guy is like "can I help you?" I told him I need an oil filter for a Lexus ES300 and he said he didn't know what kind it was, the guy next to me said it was the same one as the Camry so I got part number 08922-02011, Is that right? He got me the coolant too and It was $20!!!I couldn't believe it but I was told I need to get the red Toyota stuff. I said I need enough coolant for a complete flush and he gave me one bottle and said that will be enough! Is he right? After all that crap I go to Checker to get some things, they didn't have anything! No Cheltins, no Mobile1 Synthetic, no Chevron FI cleaner, no Lexol, no Zairs. I was so mad! What a waste of 2 hours!

Yes, that is the right oil filter. However, if you can get this part number: 90915-YZZB1, it would be better since it has better filtration. Paying $20/gallon of red coolant is TOO MUCH, I only paid about $11/gallon, and all you need is one, since you will mix it with (distilled) water.

so you only need 2 Gallons for a complete coolant flush? That seems not like much. Thanks

Yup, that's all you really need, but you can always keep an eye on how much drains out and determine how much you will use.

Hmmm Luc, I think the Toyota USA - YZZB1 filter is made by Purolator for Toyota.

Will this oil filter be good enough? I heard that Toyota got the best ratings for them. Should I return it and get the one Luc suggested or is it not a big deal? Thanks

Really? I bought a case of them before, and the box had the "Made In Japan" label. But actually, looking at the 909- part vs. 089- part does show differentiation in filter and built quality. Here's a Oil Filter Comparison between the Mobil 1, OEM 089-, and OEM 909- filters. Despite it's made for another car, the construction should be the same.

DK Audio, it probably is NOT a big deal to keep the one you have, besides, a Toyota dealer will most likely not have the 909- part. I changed the oil in my friend's RX300, and the dealer had used the 909- part. They stopped going to them when it costs only about $20 vs. $90.
