Ugh....
Hey, all,
I just cleaned my battery terminals and since then, my 02 ES300 has not been the same.
- idle is going up and down
- the fan cuts on and goes off
- as soon as I begin to back it out of the driveway, it cuts off
- I re-crank and pull it back into the driveway and it cuts back off
Oh, the check engine light was on before I cleaned the corrosion off the battery terminal, but I did not have the above issues either.
My plan is to re-clean the terminals and posts and terminals to a glistening shine . From there, I will keep my fingers crossed...

Did you possibly cross over the two terminals wit a conductive material? If so you might have shorted something. Or it may just be a concidence of time and your alternator may be going too. Also could be bad sensors or relays. The idle issue might be a bad IACV and the fans going on and off could be bad relays/sensors from the fan/radiator. Also check the PCV valve and throttle body

I have been thinking and realize that I did use spray to clean the post on the battery. The spray was running all over the battery and all I did was wipe the posts a little and reconnect. Hmmm....should I get a new battery, take it to get tested or just clean it all over again (without getting the solvent all over the battery)?

Okay...so, my battery was dead (three years old) and I returned it for a new one the had more CCA (500-650). The alternator is good.
New issue: when my foot is off the accelerator, the car cuts off. RPMs when first cranked, is reading just over the zero. The idle is very low and after about 30 seconds, it cuts off.
Any insight would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks.

honestly, that could be so many things,
1. vaccum leak,
2. bad spark plugs,
3. o2 sensor(s).
4. bad maf.
5. failing vvti solenoid(s).
6. some yet to be discovered electrical issue(s)
7. dead rodent in the exhaust system.
8. bad earth connection from battery/or engine.
9. boxtrolls have invaded your boot.
10. low oil.
11. transmission failure/resistance.

Hypervish and ES300NZ,
Thank you for the feedback. I will hop on the throttle body in the morning and then check the other things mentioned.
Again, thanks and I will post soon.

Hey, all,
I replaced the air filter, which was black, and cleaned the throttle body (thanks, hypervish), that was literally black. I used this site: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...rite-up-2.html
My ES300 is purring like a kitty....woohoo!!! Acceleration is much much better too.
Now, I need to figure tackle code: P0430 and P0031.
Any advice?

So, let me explain something before I tell you my opinion.
The CAT has a sensor before and after it. The differences between the sensors tell the ecu whether the cat is working properly or not. However, should one of those sensors fail, then the ecu might assume that the cat itself had failed.
So, replace the fail(ed)/(ing), O2 sensor, and ignore the CAT code, it will clear up as soon as you reboot (d/c power for an hour), the ecu.
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0031 <-- upstream o2 sensors heater circuit has failed.
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0430 <--ignore

ES300NZ,
Thanks for the reply. So, I went to get the CAT code again, after the cleaning, and the only code is the P0031. I ordered the Bank1 Sensor1 this afternoon and looking up some videos, to make sure I get the right sensor, of how to replace it tomorrow afternoon/evening.
I will post back after completion.

I am looking at videos and I am a little confused on how to get to the Bank1 Sensor1...Is it easier to go from the bottom or the top of the vehicle to remove and replace the sensor?
