I just clean my throttle body and now the car is running with a very high idle... It started at 1500 and then i was runing the car on and off thinking the computer needed to relearn but i never unplugged anything so maybe the cleaner got on something inside?

The car now is idleling at just under 1200 rpm's... What do i need to do? I hope i didn'r ruin anything?

Thanks Tony

I cleaned my TB yesterday and had the same situation too. I then dis-connect the battery for 15 min. and reset the ECU. After that , started the car and everything is back to normal.

Tony,

Just dis-connect the neg. battery cable for 20 minutes and re-connect it back on. This will reset the ECU. You'll lose the seat memory and radio station settings.

I just reconnected it after 10min and the idle is now just under 1000 rpm... I disconnected it agian but this time i will do it for like 20 min. Like you said....

BTW the throttle body was pretty dirty after only 55k on the car I gave it a good clean so maybe I'll have better response not that it was bad before but you know that extra feeling....

Thanks JacobT

tony you dont need to do anything , after you clean the throttle body the fumes are still within the intake manifold and throttle body itself which throws off the readings until it exits sytem. just start the car let idle for 10-15 or so go for a drive grab a beer and be happy.. i clean me throttle baout every other month its common depending on hoew much cleaner you used . i hope you used a soft toothbrush to get around the edges of the butterfly

how do you clean the throttle body? do you use carb cleaner and spry it in there when the car is running? if i do that, what happens to the MAF sensor?

I just got home and reattached the neg terminal after about an hour back onto the battery. I started it up and it was idleing at 1000rpm.. I turned the car off and turned the key and now its just under 1000 rpm in Park... When i put in Drive it drops to 700rpm.... I haven't driving it yet as i don't know if its safe... I guess it is I cleaned my mustang all the time and it never lasted this long? Thanks guys

The car was off and i sprayed into the TB with valvaline TB cleaner... I used a rag and scrubbed like crazy... I got as deep as i could inside... The end result was like new... No carbon buildup anywhere

The high idle is nothing to worry about. Just drive it around for a while, your computer will adjust the idle back to normal. Right now it's high because the computer is used to the dirty throttle that lets in less air at idle. Now that it's cleaned up there is a little more entering the engine at idle so it idles a little higher.
