Key Fob Problem
I just purchased a "new to me" 1998 ES300 a week ago. What I got with it is 1 transponder key and thats it. NO KEY FOB. So i took to ebay and ordered the 3 button key fob HYQ1512P and printed out every single possible programming instruction that I could find.
The problem is:
I cannot for the life of me get it to work. I tried everything, changed to battery, re-did the instructions slower, faster, everything.....
I just really need someone that has experienced this and found a solution to respond and please help me.
I know the car came equipped with a keyless entry of some sort, since it has the rotary "beep volume" **** under the steering column.
Thanks for any and all help on this matter.

I'll tell you what I know.
1. The procedure varies from year to year.
2. For mine, I've seen several different procedures on the web and tried 3 before I got it to work.
3. Programing the remote and programing the transponder are 2 different steps.
4. Some years require a ECM/Immobilize programmer to get the job done.
5. It is one of the most frustrating things you can attempt, mainly because of a lack of trustworthy info.
6. I invested in a programmer after I got the remote to work but couldn't get the transponder programmed. It solved the problem.
7. Always buy genuine OEM keys, and remotes. After market ones are garbage.

First time attaching a file, so hope it works. I no longer have my '98, but this worked for me. Had to try it a few times before I did it right, though. Be patient. This definitely worked for my '98 with an OEM fob I got on Ebay.

Thanks Walt
but this is the info I have been using and can't get it to work.
Fritz330- What programmer are you using, and where is it available?
Thanks for the replies guys. I hope I can figure this out soon.

This is interesting because I had a similar problem when purchasing a key fob off of Ebay for my 1997 ES 300. I've purchased two of these. The first one I believe was a HYQ1512P (same as yours) and it worked fine after programming. A few years later the plastic ring broke so I purchased an identical looking HYQWDT-C key fob and it did not work at all after multiple programming attempts. The seller's ad claimed it would work for my 1997 ES 300. It turns out the FCC compatibility is different between these two and the HYQWDT-C only works on an LS400, not an ES300, despite both fobs looking IDENTICAL. My only guess is that you got a bad key fob and/or the HYQ1512P shell could have been switched out with guts from an HYQWDT-C key fob. Fortunately, in my case the seller offered to exchange or refund my money for the correct remote. It might be worth purchasing or exchanging this key fob for another one to rule out all possibilities.

PDXLex-I think I will look int getting another FOB. I had the same feeling about it being bad earlier today. Too bad they don't have a light on them to know for sure that it's working.
