Question Delayed gear shifting in early mornings?

I've noticed a strange/unique issue with my 2000 ES during my first initial driving periods each morning. For some reason when I jump in my ES each morning (engine cold) and drive off, the car seems to have a somewhat lengthy and delayed period of sticking at about 3000 RPM's at 30-35 MPH in second gear (I assume this is 2nd), before it shifts and drops down to about 1500 RPM's and kicks into 3rd gear. From there on out, it's never a problem again and shifts smooth as butter. Just for a test, today I let the car warm up and idle for about 2 minutes before I drove and this didn't happen at all. I also have never had this scenario play itself like this, other than first thing in the morning when the car has not been driven all night. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Do I need to let the car warm up in the AM to prevent this from happening?

This has been questioned and discussed many times, it's completely normal.

This is perfectly normal, you do not need to let the car warm up. It's the cold start shift logic that was put in from the factory.

Thanks for the reassurance guys! Normally I do more thorough research before posting a topic, but I just don't remember my old '97 ever doing this. Maybe it's just been too long lol

I always thought it had to do with the transmission fluid needing to be changed. Good to know its normal.

Normal, once the coolant temperature reaches the set point, it will shift normally.
