Replace starter, remove cruise control
I need to replace my starter on my 1996 es300. From what I have read, you must remove the cruise control box first. If anyone has any tips/instructions/any help at all that would be great. I need to know how to remove the cruise control box specifically.
Thank you in advance

I just replaced the starter on my '95 and I didn't have to remove anything besides the starter. I'd think it would take more time to remove all the cruise stuff rather than work around it...I didn't have any trouble replacing my starter even with the cruise stuff in place. I just wanted to throw in my personal experience...I hope it helps.

It is easy to remove the cruise control box. Access to the starter is the key. The control box is mounted by about 4 10mm nuts. You'll need a deep socket with an extension. 1/4'' drive works well. It's not torqued on too tight but spray with WD40 before unscrewing it. But before you do all this you must remove the plastic cover to get to the mounting nuts. There's one 10mm bolt to remove and a snap retainer. The plastic cover snaps into place so you'll have to pop it out. Jiggle it out pretty aggressively until it snaps up.
