Cool 1995 ES 300 starter replacement

Hi,
I need to replace my starter in my 1995 ES 300. It looks like it may be pretty easy. Is there anything that i should be aware of? It looks like 2 10MM bolts are holding the starter in. Again any suggestions and or tips would be greatly appreciated before i give it a shot.

Thank you,

Just completed the starter swap on my '95 ES 300. I also had to remove the bracket that the cruise control actuator mounts onto which is also the same bracket that the battery sits on. I ended up having to pop some of the tubes off to make space to get the old starter off and the replacement in. I thought I was going to have to remove the airbox, but it was not really in the way. I am going to try to post some pictures. I should have maybe made a video.

Battery removed and ready for next steps.
Bolt toward the front of the car and clip to pop out of cruise control actuator cover for removal.
Cruise control actuator cover removed.

Cruise control actuator removed.

One piece of advice, pay to have your starter rebuilt. It will be cheaper than the lowest cost new starter. New starters are JUNK unless you pay.

All they do is take your old one, refurbish it, and sell it for more.

Toyota OEM starters are gems. Unless you already have a Auto Zone, Napa, whatever piece of crap in there then do what you wanna do.

The replacement I installed is a remanufactured from NAPA with a three year warranty and I have to return the OEM to get the core charge back.

Right. They just send those off out of the country to get them rebuilt and then they sell em back. Id prefer to keep the OEM one with better parts. When your starter goes, its all parts that just wear out (brushes, etc) and you get to keep the good internals. Im just speaking as someone who knows someone in the business and has told me always keep the Lexus/Toyota OEM starters. He says they are quality.

I agree. I just did not have time to send it off for rebuilding.

I hear that.. and it's a dilemma. My guy will rebuild starters quickly, but thats still about 2 business days. If you dont have a backup car, your options are very limited.
