So i bought the car and still have a problem
I am brand new to the lexus/toyota world but have been in jeep forums and working on jeeps forever. I bought this lex for $2000.00 for a '95 es with new brakes and tires. It has 204000 miles on it but runs great and is really clean. Well it runs great except for the idle. It has a check engine light and the guy that sold it said it was a cylinder misfire which i thought would be the plugs. So the day I got it I changed the plugs which wasnt that tough of a job at all. The car runs amazing at high speeds but it isnt idling all that well. Its shaking a lot and was wondering if you professionals on here had any insight at all....I am posting a few pics of the car as well to see what you guys thing of the deal. I certainly am a jeep guru but this car is brand new to me and appreciate any/all response from you guys.

well i did some research and cleaned up the IAC and it is already running a ton better and starting easier. HOWEVER i want to give her a whole tune up. So with those kinda miles what are some other things I should look to do? ALso I read good/bad things about seafoam...i always used this stuff on jeeps and it works great is there anything i should know about using it on the lex since i have read mixed reviews?

seafoam works great.......worked so good that it plugged up one of my injectors. Becareful with this stuff. It cleans very well but if your car's got some miles on it and you've never done it before, be prepare to replace some injectors.

Your ES definitely looks like she's in pretty good shape. Nice and clean interior too.
Couldn't help but notice the Toyota emblem on the engine cover. Do you know why it doesn't have the factory Lexus cover?

i found that in the trunk and screwed it on....i noticed it wasnt the right one but it fit. I think he prob got it from a bone yard. Do you guys have any good remedies for cleaning the throttle/intake??? I just put in new plugs so seafoam is kinda scary to me i really dont feel like doing those plugs again.

Id take the upper plenum off and clean every part you can get at. EGR, TB, IAC Valve, and make sure all the vacuum lines are good, there are alot of them. Are the valves noisy? Man after i did mine the engine runs alot better!! Check to see if the intake tube is cracked at all, that will cause an idle problem. Let us know if there are any questions and maybe you can get your baby up to 300K.

I see you bought her. I was going to ask you when catching up on the posts (been gone for a week). Hopefully you get her up and running smoothly without needing to replace anything. That way I'll feel good telling you to buy her. $2000 for a '95 that just needs cleaning is a steal IMO. Hell, you probably got a better deal than I did!

Dont forget to replace your PCV valve and grommet. Next time it goes in for an oil change id run some stp injector cleaner. Stuff works miracles. And of course clean the throttle body! Your lexus looks sooo nice btw!!

Your engine was replaced...unless the engine cover was swapped.
Looks like a camry engine cover.
My 95 (210,100 miles) still has the original transmission and engine (not rebuilt)

yeah that engine cover was in the trunk and i just stuck it on there i think its from a junk yard. I need a new intake hose the old one is cracked by the lip where it connects. Is that a good reason for it to run like ****? It is hard to start and idles lousy.
ALSO how to i get the check engine codes off of a 95 without paying a shop a ton?
