Anybody get pulled over for front window tint????
Thanks for answering all my previous questions!!!
I'm ready to tint all the windows (20% back and 35% on all 4 side windows).
I know 1loudlex has had some experiences, but just wondering if any of you have any input on how to avoid being pulled over?
I heard from some GS people that they have a medical doctor's note they take to the DMV that allows them to tint the front windows. I'm considering doing this, just don't know how to go about it.
Thanks

some of my friends have that, but you have to know someone that works at an eye doctors office.. Sometimes the cops dont give a crap if you have that though... I have had great luck lately, knock on wood, about getting pulled over.. I think that you will be ok though.. just watch out for Cook County Sherrifs, they ALWAYs, and I mean ALWAYS pull people over for tint. Just to give you a heads up.. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE SMART ABOUT IT..

My wife is an eye doctor and told me that the Dr.'s note is not going to work. She will not issue one for any reason. If your eyes have problems that require a window tint than you should not be driving she claim's. I guess that's what prescription sun glasses are for. She's a pain in the *** anyway-go for it.
Good luck!

Tint
I have 20% all the way around the tint is Bronze, so in the daylight it looks half way light. I have barely ever been messed with for tint until last week. I have had many different cars with tinted windows and don't get bothered that much. But last week I was on 294 comin home from work cleaned my car at lunch, so I must have grabbed his attention, and I had this state trooper following me around in traffic, I am goin 45 watchin a damn music dvd (hahahha) but not speedin or anything and this fool pulls me over for tinted windows, he ended up just givin me a waring after sittin there for 10 mins. I just said the car came like that and I thought a certain % was legal. I don't get messed with normally I believe cause my car looks real classy. I think if you have black *** tint and you start putting body kits on there and stuff it would attract them more. I have driven on 294 between s Cicero ave. and 290 for almost 5 years now and have these cops studied. Well not to be profiling or anything but here is what they do(mostly african american troopers), they pull over the ghetto asses with the junk cars or gangsta rides like caprices and stuff and also the nice *** cars, benzes, beemers, lexus' ect they just have some point to make.He just must of seen I wasn't some yuppie white guy cause he would have wrote me one. Sorry this is so long but *******here is what you do if you get a ticket, have a tint shop write you a receipt saying you paid to have the tint taken off, and if you are that worried take it off take a picture of your car with it off the front 2 windows and bring it to court the judge will through it out, then get it redone. I have tons of friends at tint shops so they write me a receipt no prob, so....

This is such a sour subject...it seems that when a cop has nothing better to do they just pull people over for tinted windows and no front plate...all I can say is to stay out of the suburbs if you have tint...if the town has no crime then they are gona mess with ya...if they have crime i.e. Chicago they leave you alone...as far as the note from the doc. when I was in court last week (Wheaton Court House)...a person gave the judge the note from the doctor...the judge laughed at every person that brought the note in to him...and gave them a fine...the reason he said that the note didnt work is because the dr. office name must be on the note, dr. name printed (not just the scribble john hancock), and a phone number so they can contact the dr.'s office to make sure it is real...

damn, this is getting interesting.
I live and go to school in the suburbs, but I see many people with high end luxury cars (7 series, S-Class, Range Rovers, GS/LS, etc..) and also some ricers with front tint. I noticed that in the city, particularly when I worked at the U of Chicago (hyde park) this past summer, a HUGE number of cars had front window tint, but obviously, in that area, cops have better things to do than pull for tint.
I'm gonna go ahead and try and get the doctor's note from my pediatrician (heheh )...she's my aunt and hopefully will hook me up. I'm wondering if any doctor can do it or an eye-specialist must do it????

The Illinois vehicle code if very specific about the note from the eye doctor and in some very limited circumstances the judge will continue the case and subpoena the doctor to court to testify under oath that the defendant requires the tint for a specific condition, most doctors will not lie under oath about something like this. In addition, here in Lake County the Judge will require the defendant to bring the car to the courthouse and have either the court deputy or the officer who wrote the citation step outside and visually inspect the car ( I am speaking from alot of experience on this subject ). The obstructed view 625 ILCS 5.0 12-503(a) statue was passed years ago after a Police Officer was shot by a subject who was in a car behind tinted glass, it is an Officer Safety Law. However, from what I understand the offender was in the back seat and tint is legal on the rear windows Also, with the local ordinance primary offense seatbelt laws being passed daily we will stop people with tint because we cannot see into the car to verify the driver and front passenger are belted in. The Click It or Ticket campaign pays for officers to come in and make overtime just to enforce seatbelt law. As for front lic plates, they look like crap and I agree that the law is ridiculous but it on the books and there is nothing any of us can do about it. My GS would look like crap with a front plate !!!

Thats not necessary !! I like people who have taste and drive nice cars !! Just remember, alot of cops out there take the job way to seriously and it is reflected in how they do their jobs and the arrests they make. For example, ISP troopers are what we call "taillight chasers", all they do is enforce traffic law and they even screw with other cops for both moving and equipment violations. The worst is Wisconsin troopers and certain deputy sheriffs in Wisconsin, they will stop marked patrol cars for speeding and write tickets. That is ridiculous in my opinion but then again some cops think they are above the law and they deserve it in my opinion !!

Let me holla at you for a minute....
....from what I understand is that Illinois is actually thinking about passing a front plate law that says we dont have to have one...this is just hear say from the CSPD (Carol Stream)....
....Also I have been told that some judge actually said that the police could not write a ticket for the front due to the fact that Illiniois State cops actually had unmarked and marked cars that were in fact missing the front plate, they pulled over some guy that knows some powerfull people and decided to file a law suite....this was told to me buy a Illinois State Cop when he wrote me a warning ticket....I was told that if he could have written the ticket he would have but cant....
Just some food for thougt....holla back.....

My wife is an eye Doctor and said she would never issue a doctors note for window tint. If your sensitive to light then get sun glasses or dont drive during the day.
Now that I think about it, maybe she can write one for me

I have not heard anything about the front plate law being revised in any way. The state issues two plates for every registered vehicle in Illinois and it would be a bad idea to start only issuing one plate since the costs for registration and renewel just went up a considerable amount of $$. I would bet that the idea to only issue one plate was there when Mr. White revised the old plate design, however, the new design plates are being issued in pairs and I would not predict that this will change. As for the judge who said an officer cannot enforce this law if he/she is driving a patrol vehicle without a front plate I can understand her point. I have personnally never seen a marked or unmarked squad without a front plate but I am sure it happens in some areas. If we are going to enforce any kind of motor vehicle law we need to make sure we are in compliance also. For example, we have an officer who refuses to wear his seatbelt but goes out everyday and writes people for it, that is crap in my opinion and I have told him that, he just laughs. I do know this, if my patrol car has a headlamp out and I stop someone for this and write the ticket any judge in Illinois will dismiss the citation and most likely lecture the officer who issued it. I don't have a front plate on my GS and I don't plan on putting one on but it is a nice tool for us to use to stop vehicles, possibly for other reasons. I am a patrol officer in a western suburb of Northern Lake County, near Fox Lake. Unfortunately I cannot disclose what agency I work for, at least not right now.
