The GX470 is probably worth a look as well. The 03/04s tend to sit right around that $10-13k mark which makes them a pretty good bargain even compared to a similarly priced T4R. You may need to budget for replacing the rear air suspension, but once you do it should be fine for another 100k miles.

^ Yeah I was thinking about the Lexus "Prado", I probably need to up my budget a bit. I was thinking 7-10k, but that doesn't buy me as much truck as I'd want. 4 Runners in that price range either are old, have a bunch of miles, have issues, or a combo of all 3.
Plus I'd like to try and stay away from the V8's, at least Toyota's V8's just drink the gas.
I will keep my eyes out for a Lexus Prado though, that is a good recommendation(plus they're really stinking nice inside). Also, could you get a GX from 03-04 without navigation? I know on cars that old I'd rather just have the standard radio because the nav screens are so out of date the graphics look like an old 8 bit Nintendo.
Plus I'd like to try and stay away from the V8's, at least Toyota's V8's just drink the gas.

A 4x4 4.0 v6 4runner will get ~17mpg with mixed driving conditions and as low as 13-14 mpg with just city driving. The 4.0 v6 is not a gas efficient engine to say the least. And I believe the difference between the 4.0 v6 and 4.7 v8 is only 1-2 mpg.
The only real difference is that the v8 has a timing belt that needs to be changed every 100k miles.

Decided against a GX after looking at one and that stupid swing open door. The way my carport is configured, with that door open you can't unload the truck and walk into the house, the door gets in the way.
Not only that, I'm not really sold on the full time 4wd on that truck or on the Land Cruiser. Its a great system, but it doesn't snow very much around where I live and any of those full time 4wd systems, combined with the V8 gives you horrendous fuel economy. Probably going to keep looking for a 4 Runner, I've noticed 2wd ones are cheaper, so that's something.
