Which interior do you think looks better?
I was taking a look at the Land Cruiser ''Prado'' Which is sold overseas and is the Toyota version of the GX460. Anyway, i realized that the old generation had a nicer interior than the newer generation ( 120 vs 150 )
Does anyone else agree? I mean did Toyota really have to make the interior this dull so it can sell more GX460s ( They sell the GX460 in the GCC side by side with the Prado but it doesn't sell very well, most people who want a Lexus 4WD just get an LX or a Land Cruiser 200 since its priced similar to some LC models over there).
Anyway here are the pics, i will let you decide which one you prefer.
Old
new
I prefer the old one, it reminds me of the updated 200 interior.
..
I'm not a fan of the wood trim though.

150 is actually nicer inside and in every other way, but 120 was good for its time, maybe better if you look at it that way.
i think 150 is better for the price than 200... now 200 is one that feels like they made it gimped so LX is nicer.

the Toyota/Lexus Suvs were revolutionary in design when they came out in 1998 and even with the GX later.
The newer ones are more of an evolution of the previous design, i suppose the next generation of Lexus/Toyota 4wd vehicles will be more revolutionary!
With every new LC design you have people hating on it and saying the old one is the best, then when the newer version comes they change and move there hate to the new one, atleast until they can afford it

I like both, and both are laid out intuitively. I won't comment on the Prado as I have no experience in them, but between the GX470 and GX460 I prefer the GX460 interior design more, HOWEVER, the materials used in the GX470 are leaps and bounds better than the cheap plastics you'll find in the GX460

I like the GX but i hate the front end. I tried warming up to it, but i just can't. I really hope they fix it with the next face lift due in a few months.
A GX570 wouldn't be too bad either but i guess they want to save the 3UR-FE for the big LX.
..
On a side note, whats up with Toyota/Lexus and the cheap plastics of the mid-late 00s. Was this a result of the economic crisis, did they have to do that much cost cutting? It seems to be better now with the newer Lexus vehicles.

And yes and no. The 4GS was a major step up in terms of quality and materials. The 2013 ES.. not so much. In fact I hate that vehicle with a passion now. The hard plastic on the center console near the shifter is expansive and a slap in the face to anyone who buys an ES for it's luxury content. Lexus should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for it. The Avalon (which the ES is now based off of) has nicer materials. It's sad really. The upcoming 3IS thankfully takes after the 4GS more so than the 13ES though because of it's cheaper than 4GS price there are a few chintzy materials here and there.

I hope they improve the interior of the ES with the updated model in a few years. I was never a fan of the ES anyway, i can't stand front wheel drive cars and would never think of owning one, but i would definitely pick the new Avalon over the ES.

not sure if that perception is true... on the surface, it is but actually those newer cars are better built... for instance in 120, that wooden piece in front of the passenger would come off partially and had to be reglued. Or like Corolla, where E12 was considered much better quality than new Auris in Europe, due to softer materials, but in reality it rattled a lot and common problem was dash separating from radio for a 2" gap above radio, while Auris has harder and more scratchable plastics but barely a squak.

I can clarify that the 200 series feels super solid, even more solid than a 100 series when driving off road, and that is saying something because the 100 was already super solid. I'm sure the same goes for the 150 v the 120 and other vehicles manufactured by Toyota/Lexus.

Toyota decided to make their vehicles as cheap as possible in the hopes that no one would notice. The Camry's sustained sales during that period would prove that theory to be correct. The "Toyota" badge has been pushing Toyota's sales rather than the product for many years now. Toyota has seen what the future brings if you rest on your laurels and push for lower costs with no end; you'll end up like the Big 3. I think the company is now making an attempt to once again produce compelling vehicles which sell based on their true merits rather than reputation alone.

In general, within reason, though it's not the only thing I judge an interior by, I feel that the more wood or wood-tone trim, the better.
