I also like the wheels in the first photo better.

Blingy wheels on an MR2 =

I never thought of three-piece forged wheels with brushed centers particularly 'blingy.' That's a new one.

Factory wheels? Yuck. The stock 'triangles' were always ugly, but at leas they are narrow and the offset sucks. I still have them although they don't fit over the brakes.

Sweet MK1 Bob. However, I prefer the small wheel, old school look on 1980's Japanese cars. Your car would look so good with Work Equips or SSR Mesh:

They are shiney, too big for the car, and have stretched tires... Thats 3 for 3 on the bling scale. Doesn't matter how expensive or how quality built they are, sorry

To be fair, a boxy shaped car like that is hard to figure out what wheels look good.

I'm getting rid of my MR2 right now. At least that money keep my SC400 running for awhile. This WON'T be my last MR2. I just need to focus on my SC right now.

How much of the parts list for the MR2 is E code now? Looking at the pics of these cars, it's pretty clear they're either pristine because they've been garage queens or they're in the 200k mile club because someone loved them enough to drive them.

That's a good question. There are some trim and body parts for the 85-89 cars that are NLA, but in many cases someone in the MR2 community has developed a fix or replacement (radio trim bezel, C-pillar trim, etc.). The engines are quite robust and share many basic parts with AE86, FX-16, etc., so I don't see this being a big issue.

There aren't too many garage queens out there - mine has 190K+ miles on it but was always meticulously kept and it's never seen harsh weather. Most people thought I was crazy to repaint it, as the original paint did not look bad.

Regarding wheels and cars; fortunately, I've always "marched to the beat of my own drum" on concepts and builds, and by-in-large I think most would say my cars are fairly clean and tasteful. I do tend to do a few things that might be 'ahead of the curve,' but ultimately most people embrace and some emulate. On the MR2, it turns-out OE 4-pot Supra calipers like at least 17" wheels...

The MK1 MR2 is one of my all time favorite Japanese cars next to the Acura NSX and Nissan 300ZX.

When it first came out, my local dealership had a white supercharged model on the lot, I used to go there just to stare at it, it looked like a mini Ferrari back then.
