Default Car Choice Help

My dad gave up on his 02 E320 and is giving it up next week or so.

His Choices

06 Avalon XL

or

07 Camry 3.5 V6

He will spend a LITTLE more money to get the Avalon....is it worth it?

Which One?

Help?

Pros And Cons of Both?

It seems to me the only real differences are a bit more room in the Avalon and a few gimmics like the push-button start. Not worth it if your dad is seriously frugal.

The Avalon has more room, a few more amenities, and is not as common as the Camry.

The Camry has a V4 option, better gas mileage, and can be very luxurious with all the options (and still cost less than the Avalon).

Put it this way: if he wants and can afford the extra room that the Avalon can provide (which costs about $5k more than a comprable Camry), go for the Avalon. I'd chose the Avalon over the Camry myself.

Avalon is very nice! The Limited edition is very nice, but except for that yellowish wood! I would go for the Touring edition very very nice! Well Good Luck!

The Camry, IMO would be the better buy of the two for several reasons: First, Toyota dealers generally keep far more of them in stock than Avalons and chances are your dad will find what he wants...or close to it....right off the bat. Second, because of those huge sales figures Camrys have low depreciation for resale....usually less depreciation than Avalons. Third, if you need regular parts ( or body parts in an accident ) they are usually easier to get than for an Avalon. Fourth, the Camry's wood paneling ( in models that have it ) IMO is MUCH better than the Avalon XLS and Limited's orange-looking stuff. Fifth, Camrys offer virtually the Avalon's ride quality and now noise level for less money...unless you get the slightly stiffer Camry SE or Avalon Touring models. Sixth, I personally don't care for the Avalon's split-level stereo....controls low on the console and readouts way up high. ( although you may like it )

Well, since 1SICK stuck the ES into the poll that changes the playing field a little. A new ES would be a better car than either the Camry or Avalon...especially in the areas of warranty, customer service, interior quality, and quietness....though the Camry and Avalon are both so quiet that they approach the ES.
Note, however...I'm basing my comments on the last ES330.....I have not seen or reviewed the new upcoming ES yet. I plan to.
