Has anyone dropped the W58 transmission on jackstands?
I may have a rear main seal leak on my car.... I may have to do this within the next couple weeks in my garage.... for those who has done it, any advice? I've done a clutch change on my Supra but it was on a lift, I'm hoping this is not too bad.
Thanks
Jeremy

i had to drop a TR3650 out of my Mustang GT i had last year on jackstangs, best advice i can give you, is to try and get it as high in the the air as safe as possible, and make sure you have a buddy that can help you.

don't use the U joint swivels. Try to get the ball joint swivels. You will need about 4 feet of extension with an impact makes life easy. I have done a few on jackstands which isn't a big deal without a tranny jack by myself. The tranny isn't that heavy. I would start with the two hardest bolts and work my way down.

I did this exactly in my SC300 when I was doing my 1JZ swap. The trick is to have a very heavy duty jack stand underneath the transmission ready with a board or something to keep it balanced on the way down. Once you have the car safely on jackstands as high as possible and the transmission bolts/driveshaft disconnected just slowly jack the tranny down. Yeah- you could potentially drop the tranny on the floor, so just be careful and be ready to brace the weight when it's loose.

I undo the driveshaft and place a jack under the transmission cross member, then lower the trans down, this helps with the top bolts. might have to raise it back up to get some other bolts though. You can get to one or two top bolts from the engine bay, each side. After that I just use a floor jack under the tranny and wrestle it out. It's a PITA, but I've done it a bunch. I've also used straps to strap the tranny to the floor jack for extra insurance. With a transmission jack or two people it would be easy.
