When I bought my SC300, i never had the OEM remote for the keyless entry. I only have one key for the car and i have locked the key inside once before which sucked. So i am thinkin about getting the Code Alarm CA310 but not sure if it is worth it. I found it on ebay for $24.95 plus shipping, which isnt too bad. I'm also looking into the Code Alarm CA170. What do you guy think? anyone have any experience or reviews on these? All i'm looking for is a basic alarm with keyless entry and LCD remote. Since my car is 5spd i dont wanna risk remote start because I park in gear all the time.

 

I am a MECP certified installer. While I have not personally installed any Code Alarm products I also have not heard any raves about their products. I haven't heard any major issues either but when I do work I like to use product with a very proven track record, ie: DEI, Autopage, even Crimestopper.

The unit you are looking at for $25 is VERY cheap compared to MSRP. Next, you will need to pay for installation which will run you anywhere from $75-$200 depending upon the shop. That is IF you can get a shop to install a product you bought on your own. Going down that path could cause warranty issues if you ever needed to make a claim.

I would advise that you go to a reputable shop in your area and invest in a basic but proven security system. DEI (makers of Viper, Hornet, Python, Avital, and others) offer very cost effective solutions for your needs.

You are looking at spending roughly $250+ for a decent 2 way alarm w/LCD that is installed professionally and covered by both manufacturers and the shops warranty.

I do installs myself but I am certified and have my own business so the manufacturers warranty is valid. Additionally, I cover my work for the entire time the owner I worked for owns the car. There are a lot of "backyard" installers out there that will do the work cheap but not be there for you if there is a problem.

I'm might look into Autopage but thanks for your input. A new guy just partnered up with my buddy's shop and is doing audio and security installs so i'm just looking at prices of stuff so I can work out a deal with him. Also so he doesnt totally rip me off on it. I like to do alot of research before I buy stuff.

He's quoted me $275 for the Code Alarm CA170. its a LCD pager alarm system. 1/4 mile range.

 

Sounds fair. Wholesale on the unit should be around $75. $250 total installed is where most shops would price it.

i might just do it to help him out. There is another ship in town that sells Code alarms too and for a lot longer. But this guy just started and he's partnered with my buddy's performance shop.

 

i know when i have dealt with code alarm its has been nothing but trouble. i would suggest Directed products.

 

I'ma look into some viper alarms also. There is just so many.

i'm also looking at the viper 350 or the python 460
