What's the best way to get these things done on 2005 RX 330 from reliability + cost + quality persective.
1. Remote Start
2. 3M Scotchguard paint protection (Does is it really worth and works?)
3. Back up Bipper (not camera just the bipper)
The dealer quote for all these 3 options seems too high to me and need something better on price without cutting too much on reliability or quality.
Not seeing any replies?? Did I asked too many questions in this post??
I just need the reliable source to get these things done cost effectively. Delaer quotes are too high.
1. For 3M Scotchguard- $900
2. For Back up bipper - $700
3. For Remote Start - $650
kingsangle, skip the scotchguard. It's not worth it. For the other two items, I'd go to a local installer to see what they would charge. The dealer prices are too high for these AM items. Sorry I can't make a recommendation. My installer went out of business after 20 years
When you say "3M Scotchguard paint protection", do you mean ClearBra? I have it on both Lexuses, to me it was worth every penny. For the RX I bought it here:
and paid my window tinting guy $300 for installation. The dealer wanted $900. I declined and during the first week got a large rock on the front edge of the hood. So, I got it done, and since then it saved me from countless rockchips. So, $900 is a little too much, but how much would it cost to re-paind the hood?
I doubt he's talking about ClearBra, I understood it as paint sealant. I too would have to say pass on this. If you do want protection (wax, sealant) then do it yourself and save a bunch. It helps if you're using the right products and materials as well, so be sure to check out the vendor section for paint products.
I'm sure you could wire up the back up sensors yourself, if you're willing to that is. It's not hard at all. If not, I'd shop around for better pricing.
In regards to the remote start, you might as well get an alarm that has that built in feature.

Wow. That's a very good price. I agree that this is definitely worth it since the paint on our cars is pretty soft. I have it on my BMW and it still looks new. Did you put this on yourself, and if so, was it difficult?
No, like I said, my window tint guy did it for $300. It's the same installation procedure, but requires a lot of heating w/heatgun, to go nice on all curved surfaces.
with reagrds to the car starer, when i used to install them at dodge i would grind off the teeth of the key before putting it in the box. this way if someone were to try and steal the car using that key it would be useless. keep in mind a new dodge key was only like 75 bucks.
there are boxes available which mimic the key without a key being inside, might be a better route
