Do new tire pressure sensors have to be registered to the car?
I bought 4 new OEM tires which I plan to put on winter tires on. They came with the Yokohama Advans on them and since I have the Dunlop runflats i figured I would give them a test ride to see the difference and then realized later i never registered the TirePS with the car. No warning lights though. So i switch that little switch to the "2" postion same thing JW what the deal is. If the have to be registered why dont i have an error light or do they only transmitt to the car why there is a problem.
there is a switch in the same area under the glove box has a MAIN and a 2 position from what i gather main is for summer tires and if you are change you wheel and using new tire pressure transmitters they would be register under 2. Aparently i am worng becuase i never registered anything and no warning lights lit up.

so you have tire pressure sensors in both sets of wheels?
Just wanted to update on this. The light came on today (took long enough) went to the dealer to get the sensors registered in the cars computer and found out this. On the Tire sensor is a number that number has to be entered into the computer via the Lexus scan tool. Now of course you have to dismount the tire get the number off the sensor, remount and balance the tire. So I am going to wait for the winter rubber to come in and get the numbers during the swap instead of doing it twice. So if you get new wheels and new sensors make sure you get that number to give to you Lexus dealship before you mount the rubber.
I have a 2007 GS350 and I got the tire pressure sensor monitor system failure light... The Stealership wants $300 to fix it but said it could be more if its more than one that needs to be replaced. I found the Denso TPS replacements online for $35 (
), of course they wont install them unless you purchase from them. I was wondering if I purchased the Techstream cable and software from eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tool-Cable-Scanner-for-Toyota-Lexus-Mini-VCI-Diagnostic-TIS-Techstream-V10-30-29-/222386351884?hash=item33c7426f0c:g:LGMAAOSwImRYhY~O&item=222386351884&vxp=mtr) if it would allow me to program them to my car? Or if anyone has any other options I could do.

There is a video in there on how to add the new sensors with the techstream.
Thanks a lot man. Im going to give it a try. My wife wants to get rid of the car because it consumes so much oil now. My 2g has 300k on it and doesnt consume hardly any oil.

Dismount the tire to get the new TPMS id.? Whoa! who is(which dealer) doing this. Don't they even have a TPMS id. reader? You don't need to dismount timres. Point the
reader to the TPMS, trigger it, TPMS will wake up and send signal with id. number. Register that number into ECU. TPMS is only active when car is in motion. When you
park the car it goes to sleep to save TPMS battery.

I use Tech stream myself too. Any tire shops will handle TPMS issues. They don't have to be OEM TPMS.
