Lexus RC F Resurfaces with Carbon Package
Though full details are still unconfirmed for the time being, here are some interesting shots of the Lexus RC F with potential an optional carbon-fiber aero package, offered directly through Lexus.
The kit includes the following:
- New hood with central air vent
- Carbon fiber roof
- Active rear spoiler (also carbon fiber)
Price and availability are as of yet, unknown, as well as whether the pieces are going to be true 100% CF machined parts (versus wraps or overlays). I’d like to give Lexus the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t be pandering anything less than true carbon fiber pieces though.
My personal take: Meh. I’m a huge fan of the RC F’s aesthetics as it is, with a great mixture of aggressive and clean lines. It sits low, taught, and looks ready to bulge out of its sheet metal at any given
moment.
I’ll be completely honest here. The carbon fiber treatment does bring down the visual appeal of the car. Performance bits, I’m all for, especially to take the RC F’s heavy ~3,900 lb curb weight down, but the high contrast parts (especially with the white) really harkens back to body proportions more reminiscent of the discontinued Celica and late Hyundai Tiburon. Maybe I’m crazy, but is anyone else is seeing this?
Not that I’d kick it out of bed. That rear quarter shot does look pretty good. But a great sports car carbon fiber pieces does not make. In an ideal world, I’d love to see Lexus take a page from BMW’s book with the late and great, M3 CSL and crank the sport up even more for the purists.
