Lexus IS: How to Adjust Door Lock Settings
Changing the door lock settings in a Lexus IS is as simple as pressing a button.
This article applies to the Lexus IS (2005-2014).
If you're a Lexus driver, chances are the finer things in life appeal to you. One thing about luxury in 2015 that makes upscale automobiles slightly different from the past is the focus on convenience. It's all about personalization and customization. By this definition, the term luxury is slightly different in translation; it now means whatever feels luxurious for you. With this thought in mind, it is understandable that the door lock settings on your Lexus IS should be adjusted according to your idea of luxury. Resetting your Lexus IS locks is a task you can complete at home unless, of course, you're nervous about fooling around with your auto's electrical components and would rather hit the shop for this service.
Materials Needed
- Owner's manual
Step 1 - Locate your owner's manual
This do-it-yourself task is outlined in the manual, but there are a few steps that could use more detail. Alternating between these instructions and the manual is an excellent idea.

Step 2 - Disable the factory default options
Skip this step, and the car will revert to factory defaults every time the door lock settings are changed. To disable the defaults, put the vehicle into "Ignition On" mode without starting the car. The engine start/stop switch light will turn amber. Next, hold the unlock button and count to five. Shut down the vehicle and repeat the procedure a second time.

Step 3 - Enable your new settings
In order to prep the car to receive your new settings, follow these steps:
- Turn the ignition on without turning the engine on.
- Shift into neutral.
- Press and hold the unlock button for approximately five seconds.
- Remain in neutral while shutting down the vehicle.
- Press and hold the lock button (again for five seconds).
- Shut down.
Step 4 - Locate the door lock settings of choice in your manual
The instructions vary depending upon your preferences but the owners manual has a very detailed list of settings you can choose from.
Pro Tip
You can also change the Smart Key settings so that when you touch the drivers' side door handle of your Smart Key enabled Lexus IS, your touch unlocks all vehicle doors rather than just the one on the driver's side. To accomplish this, simply press the lock and unlock buttons on your Smart Key simultaneously while standing next to your driver's side door.
