Lexus IS: How to Disable Seat Belt Alarm
Permanently turn off the "no seat belt" alarm in your Lexus IS with these simple steps.
This article applies to the Lexus IS 250, IS 350 (2005-2014).
There are only two ways to silence the seat belt alarm in a Lexus. Buckling up the seat belt will do it, but you can avoid this annoyance all together.
Step 1 - Turn the car on
Position yourself in the driver's seat. In order to avoid the confusion of another alarm, be certain that your seat belt is off, your foot is of the brake, and your doors are closed. Then, turn on the car.
Step 2 - Change trip meter to "ODO" and turn off the car
Make sure the counter in your dash board is set to the lifetime odometer mode. Press it until it reads "ODO" with the total number of miles displayed. Then, turn the ignition off.
Step 3 - Press the start button twice and hold the trip reset button
Press the start button twice to turn the car on without fully starting it. Hold the trip reset button for roughly 30 seconds when the dash lights comes on. While still holding the trip reset button, buckle the driver's side seat belt.
Step 4 - Review the ODO display
The display should read "B on" or "B off." "B off" is the option to navigate to in order to turn off the alarm. Alternatively, your display might say "seat belt buzzer off" such as the IS model depicted below.
Pro Tip
Donning a seat belt while driving has been proven to significantly reduce risks of serious injury and even death in the event of a collision. If you decide to re-enable the seat belt alarm in your Lexus IS, you can do so by performing these steps in reverse and toggling your ODO display to the "B on" or "seat belt buzzer on" position when prompted.
