Default Bubbles on Run Flats

As I was driving to the dealer for my 15000 mile servicing, I noticed the low tire pressure light was on, so I asked them to see what was up with the tires while they performed the rest of the service.

Today they call me and say there are bubbles in three of my tires and they need to be replaced. At $500 a piece.

Now, I have some questions.

1. What causes tire bubbles?
2. Is driving on bubbled tires dangerous?
3. If I do need to replace them, does anyone know of a cheaper source for these tires?

Thanks in advance for your help.

M.

If you service your car @ lexus of manhattan dont pay them $500 foe tires.. I did and it was my mistake.. Chances are you hit some potholes and you got bubles. I dont know how you managed to get bubles in all 3... Get new non run flat tires at tirerack and go to a tire shop..

$500. Are they on crack, for run flats no less.
Call tire rack or shop local options, and get some Pilot Sports A/S or Regular. If you must have run flats thats too much money for them.

Why is everyone so anti-run flat? I've had no problems (before this) with these tires in the two years I've been driving on them. The ride handling is just fine and they look good to me.

I'd like to get the same ones again should I have to replace them. Anyone know an alternate, cheaper source?

Thanks.

Default RFT

Cheaper: Tirerack.com

Why we hate them? Harsh ride! Go drive a SC430 with regular high-performance tires and you'll feel a BIG difference!

The more current RFT's are Dunlop, that's what's on the new 2004 as too many people complain about the ride quality of RFT's. They are a newer design of RFT's and are supposed to be a better ride... We'll see...

Myself, I'm going to the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tire, since it's just as good if not better than Michellin P/S. Read the review on Tirerack and Consumer Reports as well. Best wet tire!

Deanski
