We need to know how wide the wheels are! For example, on my brother's (Link 13) '94 GS, we used 19x9 +37 and 19x10 +37. This rear offset & width require rolling the rear fender slightly, but we wanted an aggressive look. The fronts fit perfectly, with no mods.
In contast, a 19x8.5 or 19x9 +37 all around will require no modifications.
On the first gen gs300 you can't go wider than 8.5 in the front without scrubbing the inner fender, but if you don't mind scrubbing the inner fender then run a 9.0, but to play it on the safe side stick with the 8.5 in the front and 9.0 or 9.5 in the rear.Hope this helps.

Actually, the tire would scrub the fender liner, not the wheel. My brother's 245/35-19 on 19x9 +37 lightly brushes the inner plastic fender liner only when reversing at full-lock. A higher numeric offset would make this worse, so, for example, a 19x8.5 +43 (this has the same backspacing as 19x9 +37) would do the same thing with a 245/35-19 tire. Not to worry, I figure this stuff out for a living... It's not a big deal.
How will 18 x 8.5 +42 offset all around work
This set-up will work fine, they will be a bit more 'tucked in' looking than an 18x8.5 +35 (as an example).
I would use a 245/40-18 tire.
Thanks socal. Just a few more questions. so what's the best offset for a first gen gs300? and if i were to buy rims with a +42 offset i would need spacers for the best look? Thanks again.
Originally posted by minh Thanks toothbrush. So to clarify. +35 is ideal (no need for spacers,) but if I get +42 then get 5mm spacers up front and 10mm in back? Thanks again.
