I have a 93 Lexus SC400 with the stock 16's
Just bought new Falken tires 225/55 r16 66v for $500
I am interested in buying some 18" or 20" wheels.
How wide can I go? Conflicting answers on different web sites.
Here is a few wheels im looking at.
i'm not really a big fan of the spinner wheels myself....and i certainly wouldn't waste $4k+ on buying them. but, if they are what you really want, go for it.
If I were you, I'd put the springs from a Navigator on your SC, also, I would put a "2 Bling 4 U" sticker on your windshield, and get 24" Spreewells.....
Don't go Spinners man, get some nice 18" or 19" Japanese wheels that DON'T SPIN!!!
If you do get spinners or getto rims, you'll notice that people don't take you as seriously when you ask educated question... Harsh but true..
Those spinners wont fit your car, and a lug adapter would probably push the wheels out too far, then you would NEED those Navigator springs
Because your new here, I wont flame you (although I cant speak for others), in the future, use the search function to help with these types of questions, as many others have been in your posistion.
I believe the "Spinner" wheels have a bolt pattern of 5x120(BMW). If that is the case, it will not fit our SC's(5x114.3). I, too, am not a fan of these new age wheels. But if you are, i totally respect it - just remember to factor in the cost of tires each time you need them and the proper bolt pattern(5x114.3). There are a few members here with some very nice 20 inch non-spinning wheels. In my opinon, 18 and 19 inch diameters are not a bad choice at all. I'm currently waiting for my new set of 18 inch staggered wheels to come in. As for the "Falcon" wheels, they are nice for the price but personally, i'd want something wider than a 7.5 in width. I'd get at least an 8" in front and a 9.0 or 9.5 in the rear for an 18 inch rim. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help and info. I'm sticking with 18's. rode in an SC300 wih 20's. The ride is way too bumpy. As to the people who made fun of the spinners. Ive seen a pair of beautiful 18" spinners on an sc, it looked good and caught everyones attention. Too pricey for me though.
New spinners on the way...adaptable to most cars....rims just need a bit of a lip. So far they look really good on the D.O.A. 22"s on my bro's Tahoe, too bad I'm not to fond of them on my SC.
I really respect your desire to upgrade your wheels. I am doing the same this week.
But remember that you have a Lexus, not a Honda or Hyundai, etc. It is a top-of-the-line luxury car. Put something on it that exudes class. I'm not saying that we should all stick our noses in the air like elitists, but spinners and most (not all) chrome wheels scream BLING-BLING and will be out of style in a few years. Leave that to the really immature/insecure people who beg for attention from high school girls. You're better than that, I'm sure. Get some wheels that would make any Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche etc. owner proud, whether they are 20 or 70 years old.
I don't mean that you need to spend an ungodly amount of cash on the wheels. Do what you can with the budget you have. Just put the "right" ones on --showing off the car's performance/luxury heritage. Think about it this way: If your car rolls up in a famous luxury car auction in a few years, will the pros love your wheels or grimace at them and consider them a negative?
Get 20'' chrome, but don't get spinners, they'll be out of style in a few years and then you'll be pulling your hair because you just spent $8,000 on something no one wants.
