So I'm trying to choose a rear tire size for the set of wheels I've bought. Everywhere I read says to run a 255/35 but when I pop that into a tire size calculator theres about a 6% difference so I'll be going 56 at an indicated 60 mph. The speedometer doesn't really bother me since it'll prob be safer against speeding tickets but my concern is the odometer. Wouldn't running a smaller tire size drive up the miles on the odometer quicker or am I just thinking too much into this.

For those dealing with this how do you handle it. Just deal with the odometer discrepancy or is there anything else I can do. Easiest thing would be to get a 40 series tire, I was thinking a 245/40 that would be much closer to the stock size.

Oh its a 97 LS400, stock size is 225/60/16 and the rear wheel thats going on is a 18x11.5.

 

You're right on track with your thinking.... it won't be significant, but it will definitely put more miles on the car than you actually travel due to the smaller size...

On that wide of a wheel, why aren't you thinking 275/35-18??

 

Well the previous owner of the wheels had that size (but on an SC) so thats where I got it from. It all just depends with how much space I have in the wheel well. This is my first LS and first set of wheels for it so I'm sorta goin into uncharted waters. But even if I did I'd still have the odometer discrepancy which leads me more to a 40 series tire.

 

Yah, was just thinking a 275/35 would be close and a better match for that width wheel...

 

The 255 is a modest stretch for that width rim. How low is the car, what wheel offsets and what fender work does the car have or will it need?

The car will be slammed, 18x11.5 +18, and the rear I'll prob plan to shave and roll, I'm not against a slight pull but would rather not.

I guess what I'm really asking is for those with undersized (aspect ratio wise) tires how they deal with the odometer difference. If I go 35 series is 6% gonna make a huge difference in mileage per year i.e. an extra 2500 miles on the odometer or will I even notice? If I go 40 series its only a 3.4% diff.
