Regularly I use 45PSI all around because for some reason seems like I have more control than 40PSI all around. I plan on going to Vegas from Socal, would running 45PSI cold be too high possibly for the long trip or should I lower it to 42~? And should I run the rear's a little less than the front? What do you guys recommend? Thanks
Dayam....45 psi is pretty rock solid....is that at cold temp? Max psi is usually around 51 or 52 psi of those size tires...but varies by brands.
Once your tires heat up....your 45 psi will read probably 48+ psi.
I say drop it to 40 psi cold.
Also, i suggest filling up with Nitrogen....vs regular oxygen. Nitrogen molecules are much larger than oxygen molecules....thus, it doesn't leak out of the tires as quick.
The argument for nitrogen is pretty moot... Check your air pressure regularly (which I might add you have to do with nitrogen as well - it doesn't stop leaks), and there is no proven benefit to using nitrogen. Air is almost 80% nitrogen by itself...
Those pressures seem really high... You can run as high as the max inflation pressure (checked when cold) on the sidewall of the tire if you prefer, but typically 35-40 psi is where your best wear and handling will be... Many times a higher pressure may feel like it handles better, but by putting that much air in a tire, you are decreasing its bruise resistance and putting more stress on suspension components... Tires are made to absorb some road shock...
I agree mitsu. Nitrogen is a waste of money for little to no benefit. You should be checking your tire pressure anyways. Getting nitrogen is not a replacement for not checking your pressure.
I laugh at those who pay $5/tire to get their tires filled. If you get it for free then sure why not, but no one's car here is a race car so forget about it!
Yeah, I do check my air pressure about once every week so that's not a problem. Looks like I'll probably leave it at 40 when I leave. What I do hate about my wheels though is the valve is in the middle of the wheel(which has no room to work with), so I have to work my way through the spokes and be careful. Last time I did it after a quick trip around town and my finger bled because of the hot rotor =[
