I have a set of AT Italia 19 inch wheels and the center cap on the drives side has come out now three times. I bought a set of caps but I'm reluctant to put it on because it will come out again (only a matter of time). I want to know if there is anything I could put around the center cap that will stick to the inside of the wheel preventing it from coming out? You guys know, something similar to the stuff you put on PVC piping. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

 

Others may have some proven suggestions, but how about a little Loctite on the threads?

Hey Eric, I was thinking you could use this type of vinyl tape that aquarium hobbyists use to seal filter tubing. I use to have some when I had a leaky filter and I'll see if I have any left. It's real thin and might provide enough friction to keep the cap in.

 

Try some clear silicone, i used it to hold on my caps on another car worked good.

 

Aquarium tape AKA Teflon tape will not work it is designed to act as a pressure seal on threaded connections. For example paintball air fittings. If you try to use that it iwill degrade and you will eventually lose another cap.

The idea of a flexible adhesive seems to be the most viable. Clear silicone gets my vote .. be sure to let it set before driving off though. If you need a black material you can get 3M Automotive Weatherstripping adhesive. I have used that to seal MANY Fuba antennas to the roofs of cars.

Another option might be to use some 3M molding/emblem tape on the tabs .... though I could see the foamtape weaing out as well.

Sorry to hijack but where can I get some centercaps? The wheels company that makes my wheels wont respond. It's speedline. Is there anyway to get some Lexus centercaps to fit?

A lot of Speedline wheels were made by OZ. We are now the sole OZ distributer in North America. Email me the part numbers from the back of the wheel and we will see what we can do, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Please dont respond to this thread or PM me this information.
