Wheels, Tires & Brakes Forum Where else do you go for wheel, tire and brake information?

Is it safe to upgrade to 18" wheels without upping brakes as well?

Default Is it safe to upgrade to 18" wheels without upping brakes as well?

I'm curious if the bigger wheels will make the brakes less effective...would I need to up it as well?

I never had a problem but it would be on my list of priorities along with better suspension to handle the extra weight.

with bigger wheels, you might as well get a bbk, LS400 or SupraTT to be the cheapest out of the bunch to fill up the space behind the wheel.

it would look pretty funny with tiny rotors/calipers behind your nice wheels...

tons of people have bigger wheels (even 20s) with stock brakes. you are fine, just that brake fading might be a problem more easily

I had gone from stock 16 to 18" on my GS and had no problems. I noticed it takes a little bit more effort to stop but that's the price for going with bigger wheels, I think most people would not notice it. One thing I did notice is it will take a bit more rpms to accelerate from a stop.
