Not a fan of black wheels in general - It would interesting to see the white cladding with the regular OEM wheel. In principle, I don't have a problem with black cladding, what I dislike is the shape of the cladding itself....Why did need to make the rear part so pronounced? Even the Hyundai Tucson has that shape and visually, it just looks "off"
Yeah, I wasn't too focused on the wheels. I was more interested in the cladding being color-matched. I actually like it quite a bit more. I've seen a few other samples of this on the web, I wonder what the cost would be.
I like it in general except the white claddding-- I think i'll agree with the chief designer on this car in that the black cladding was done with specific intent. I'd rather that be gloss black.
The visual weight is lower (think of visual center of gravity) and as said, makes it look like a 4 door camry or something.
remember w/ cars, almost nothing is done on accident. there are teams of degree'd designers that debate and roundtable all aspects of design and colors for a car. if something is done a certain way, there's a specific reason behind it. Not to say there isn't room for improvement, but major design elements tend not to be accidents. usually for the better!
I remember when I was researching the UX before I bought mine, I saw a comment on reddit that said in reference to the UX: “Grr! I’m an angry corolla.”
I didn’t agree with that comment at first, but with the white cladding, I can definitely see where they were coming from now.
