Default Tailgate Letters/Numbers

On our tailgate we have the alpha-numeric name, for example, "TX350." I wish to remove this using the usual heat and dental floss method. My question: Are these just glued on or are they mounted through the metal? If I were a gambling man I would say they are just glued on. Does anyone know for certain?

They're glued on. I removed mine with dental floss.

Thank you. What I thought, but if someone has been there before me it sure does help.

So, anyone replaced the front "L" just on the leading edge of the hood? Glue or through the metal?

Hard to tell without removing the sight shield

BTW, when I (just) went out and looked around I kinda pulled on the oval surrounding the L. The oval didn't appear to be 100 % glued to the surface. That leads me to lean towards the piece being mechanically attached vs. glued. But that is just a quick observation
