Default More about TX350 fuel capacity

Yesterday I drove my 2025 TX350 about 5 miles after the "REFUEL" light came on. (Well past the zero miles left indication). When I gassed up it only held 15.6 gallons. If the tank holds 17.8 gallons as Lexus claims then I still had about 45 miles of fuel left. Is this what other owners are seeing?

My experience is similar and dealer stated that there are baffles inside the tank that do not allow all the fuel to be removed. They cautioned me that driving past the warning could cause you to run out of fuel. It's a real pain having such a small gas tank but something we must live with.

I was told at my dealership that this engine which requires premium fuel and is a direct injected turbo is very delicate and finicky. Or at least that is what Toyota/Lexus corporate are worried about since its relatively new. Thus, if the fuel pump were to suck up the last drips at the bottom of the tank, it would be more likely to suck up the physical deposits of junk that are inevitably sitting at the bottom of the tank. They don't think the engine would do well if this were to happen and of course they dont want it to happen during the warranty phase where they would be financially responsible. Solution: Create a virtual reserve by adjusting the zero on the fuel gauge to read as such when there is actually a few (4-6) gallons of gas still in the tank.

That's the official, unofficial response that came from a source who was most assuredly not allowed to speak on behalf of the corporate office without permission.

My mechanic (not Lexus) told me as a rule of thumb not to constantly drive on E. It will make the fuel pump work harder, and will suck trash into the injectors.
Kinda makes sense...

The small fuel tank is an issue for a vehicle this size.

I purchased my 2026 TX hybrid 3 weeks ago and have been experiencing a similar issue. When my tank is full, the dashboard indicator shows a range of only 345 miles. My TX averages 27 mpg, so the range should be 464 miles. Whenever I refuel with 35 miles of remaining range, it only takes 13 gallons of fuel. It’s an annoying glitch that no one should ever have with a brand new $85k vehicle. Even the much less expensive vehicles I’ve owned over the years had a more accurate gas gauge than this one. It’s very disappointing.

It would be great to swap a new GX fuel tank (22 gal), which would add about 100 miles to the range to get it consistently over 400.

Not I’m aware of. Toyota/Lexus has been doing this for years. My old 2008 Toyota Tundra had inaccurate DTE. Coworker bought a brand new 2011 Tundra (comes with 26 gallon tank). He’s put over 360k miles on it and just recently he thought he only had a 20 gallon tank because low fuel light will come on when there’s 6 gallons left and he stated he’s never pumped more than 19 gallons in his 26 gallon tank.

I intentionally ran my old tundra out of gas to see exactly how much/further I can drive and refill. Same thing with plug in Lexus and Toyota. People have experiment and done the same to see how inaccurate the DTE is.

I trust you did that very early in the life of your vehicle. The older the vehicle the greater chance of "garbage" being in your fuel tank. Obviously you don't want to pump anything bad into your injectors and engine.

If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will see an elaborate discussion about our 2024 TX500h F Sport and the fuel capacity issue. We have been keeping detailed information about our car since May 2024. We bought the car at the end of April 2024. This problem has existed since we purchased the car. In February of 2025, the car was diagnosed by a Lexus (FTS) Field Tech Specialist with a deformation of the fuel tank. Our car only holds only 13 gallons of gas even though it has a 17.2 capacity. It was determined by the (FTS) that the fix is to replace the car with a new redesigned gas tank. We now have 25,000 miles on the car. I have been in contact with the Executive Lexus Brand Engagement Center numerous times. I was told this summer that the fix will be available December 2025. Apparently, more Lexus owners are complaining about this issue. Lexus will drag their heals as long as the can. The squeaky wheel should get the grease. Go into your dealership and complain about your issue. The service department may act like thisis not a problem. I had to repeatedly contact the Engagement Center about the issue. We have been keeping detailed fill up records for months and have continued to keep these records. The Engagement Center finally got the Lexus Field Tech Specialist involved who can make the big time official diagnosis. Lexus knows this is a problem but is more than slow to respond. I am sure the fix is probably expensive. Good luck and continue to be persistent. This is a big problem for such a expensive car.

Have you ever driven your TX down to 0 DTE or pass zero DTE?

I'm driving a 2025 TX 500h purchased mid April. Several weeks ago I replied to a different thread (TX 500h MPG fuel tank issue disappointing) describing my “stats” to date. Apparently I or my vehicle (??) is an anomaly (mileage / tank vol) relative to many of the other posts I’ve seen. To summarize that reply; I got 24.5 to 27.0 mpg during the 1st 1,326 miles (break in?), 27.0 on a subsequent 2,125 mile “road trip” (mostly highway driving), 27.0 avg at the 5,000 mile check, and 29.7 mpg avg during the 2,306 since with 30.4 at the last fill up (mid Oct). In addition, I track the “trip + remaining range” (miles to 0 range) at each fill up that has varied from 425.0 to 460.7, with an avg of 439.8 miles. When the actual gals filled are combined with the calculated gals for the “remaining range”, the tank vol varied from 14.70 to 17.18 with a avg of 15.59 gal, theoretically to “0 range”, this in a spec’d 17.2 gal tank. Sooooooo, 1.60 gal remaining at “0 range”???? Maybe we’ve got that bumped up tank redesign that’s being talked about???

I should add that during a fill up, when the pump back press cuts off the flow, I manually fill at a lower rate until I see gas standing at the fill port, usually another approx 1.5 gal. Takes a little longer, but extends the range.
