I get what can be described as a popping, sometimes, when going up or down, and it is the cover for the cargo area in my case not being perfect with the seats. It is not a metal sound in my case, are you having a metal sound?

Default Popping + Surface Rust?

Just picked up a gently used 2024 TX350 Premium and researching the popping noise brought me here. Upon inspection, I was surprised to discover quite a bit of surface rust on the seat frame itself. I get that untreated steel will oxidize almost immediately, but it caught me off guard nonetheless. I'm scheduling to have the popping noise addressed (along with a couple of other warranty-related concerns) and plan to bring this up with the service advisor, but wondered if anyone else has noticed this??

That really is inexcusable.

Wow, I would expect to see this on a Stellantis product, but a Lexus?! I’m going to look under the covers this weekend and please keep us updated on the dealer’s response to the rust. They’re probably going to tell you it’s “normal”

Shocker, dealership said they compared the popping noise to other new TX's on the lot and deemed it a 'characteristic.' Also conveniently glossed over the surface rust question on the seat frame. Guess it's up to me to keep an eye on both over the balance of my factory warranty.

Shocking? How about just "surprising"?

The popping noise when raising/lowering the 3rd row seats in my TX500h has always been there and I'm not sure why its even a concern. This is a very minor noise and has never interfered with operation in any way.

Regarding surface rust on the mechanism - curious indeed. Your picture of corroded bare steel suggests exposure to quite a bit of moisture - but still - I'd have thought the structure would havd been surface treated (paint or galvanized, etc) or at least lubricated to guard against this. Not a great way to save money.

I agree it doesn't interfere with operation and if it's truly a 'characteristic' then so be it. Having said that, it doesn't sound overly intentional and I've seen plenty of other power folding third row seats that don't suffer from the same. My concern is that whatever is causing the noise will prematurely stress or wear on a component that will eventually break. Apparently, I won't be alone if that's the case and Toyota has historically stood behind faulty design flaws even after years of service, so we'll just wait and see.

Regarding the seat frame rust, I was worried about moisture too, but the surrounding body panels and components appear pristine. I had an older generation Highlander that showed similar oxidation on the third row frame, but the vehicle was nearly 8 years old by the time I had a reason to dig that far under the carpet. Perhaps this is just another 'characteristic?' Time will tell.

Lastly u can either install feltpad ot just stop by dealership and they should be able to fix it fairly quickly.

You dont want to be stranded on site of a road cuz u can open it.
My dealership had to order a new fuel door. It took weeks to get it and then they had to paint it to match my specific TX. It wasn’t quick, but at least it now works as intended.

That's the reason I don't want a new door. I want the paint to match, so I will live with hitting the release button a few times to open it.

Correct, we have not had it fixed by Crown Lexus since it requires 2-3 days, (75 miles away) and we haven’t had to use the 3rd row since the 2 “kids” died. What surprises me by all these comments is that the noise is referred to as characteristic and normal by dealers is because that is their answer when they’re dumbfounded by what is making the noise and don’t care. Unless it’s not a safety issue, and they’ve got your $$, just suck it up and live with it and all the other noises to follow!
“Oh", it was purposely designed that way to draw your attention to the seat folding/unfolding. No difference to all the other poor design flaws on this vehicle. Just turn up the volume on the radio to drown out the cable “SNAP” !
