Suspension question for 2007 GS350 RWD
With 61,000 miles on the odometer (bought new), my mechanic showed me the two rear shocks are leaking and they should be replaced. 600 miles ago I put on 4 new Kuhmo tires. The previous tires (including the rear) showed general even wear (shouldn't the rear tires show uneven wear if the shocks were bad?). Question is, isn't it abnormal for the rear shocks to go bad after 61,000 miles (80% city driving)? And realistically, if I have to replace the rear shocks, I don't want to go OEM but want the same ride as if the car was new. Any suggestions what to look for? Thanks.

Your shocks may only have 61,000 miles on them, but they are also 14 yrs. old! Miles aren't the only cause for failure. Age plays a big role also. Just because they are leaking does not mean that they have totally failed yet so not seeing abnormal tire wear does not mean that they are ok.
Someone else will have to help you with your aftermarket shock question as I haven't had to replace mine yet so I have not looked into it.
