Default Lug Nuts loosen themselves

So i took off my rims, and put on the stock 17" Lexus Alloy, torqued down the lugs and drove off. within 30 seconds, my wheels were making all types of crazy knocking noises. i got out to inspect and the lug nuts were loose. i lifted her up, tightened again, then dropped her. Then torqued again. drove it back into my driveway (30 seconds at 1mph) and they were loose again. Opened it up, no sliding, both lug and stem aren't stripped.

Anyone ever had a ghost try to jack your rims while driving?

To me that sounds like the wheel might not have been seated on the hub properly. I would take the wheel off and make sure that its properly centered on the hub then re-torque the lugs. If its off to one side it can clunk like that

its super weird. it wasnt just clunking, it was loosening the lugs. i cleaned the back of the rim, and the hub surface, to make sure there's no dust bumps. and with star formation i added each lug, and check to make sure the wheel and base were flush. then tightened, dropped and torqued. and it happened again!!! LOL Im telling you this car is haunted!

Has this happened before or is this a new set of aftermarket wheels?

I think i may have figured it out. This is only happening with the stock GS rims. i believe the stock GS rims can only use stock Lexus lug nuts because it has that stopper. but since i have extended studs, i was using the aftermarket lugs. i think the rims is forcing the aftermarket lugs out via pressure and its turning the lugs within the groove. i might need to find some open ended lexus lug nuts that have that stock plate. so it can secure and still clear the extended studs

Sounds like you found your culprit. Toyota has unique lug nuts and aftermarket lugs don't work well on factory wheels in my expeirence

For your wheels you need the oe toyota style shank lugnuts. might be hard to find but there are some aftermarket lugnuts that are open on the ends so your extended wheel studs can stick out. There are also ones that are longer to accommodate a longer wheel stud but not sure if they will work for you

The lug nuts from a MKIII ('87-'92) Supra lug nuts had longer shanks and they also have the common Toyota/Lexus flat washer seating arrangement. The other option is to reinstall the stock size studs

Yeah it was sooooo weird. ive never experienced a lug nut loosening itself. i was perplexed. Had to think of it scientifically to try and figure out how it would do that. LOL
