Exclamation Rear Shocks blown/leak

I had my car in for an oil change and they mentioned my rear passenger shocks is blown.
Was wondering what is the average price, as I am quoted $541.98 to replace the rear 2 (recommended to replace both at the same time).

How hard if it to replace myself on a IS 250 F sport? and what is a good replacement shock?
Aftermarket for O.E and is F sport any different on the rear then a non f sport?

Also, how long does these typically last? I'm only at 47k right now...

I brought my car in for a recent oil/filter change and they informed me about my rear passenger shock blown.
I asked how they find out, they mentioned while the car was jacked. They notice grease/oil I the rear passenger side. I would only suspect it was noticeable or to the tech.
Basically, I am coming up to 47k and have the F-Sport version of the IS250.

I know the F sport suspension is different than the NON F-Sport.

The shop quoted me, both: Driver and Passenger REAR shocks for $541.98 (Parts + Labor). They currently have 1 available at Lexus, so I suspect they get the O.E version from the dealer itself.
My questions are:

1) Does F sport suspension make it different where I should get O.E ones?
2) IF NOT, then what after market is ideal? Tokico, KYB, or something else?
3) They are basically charging 170.99 for a one rear shock/strut x 2 ($341.98) + Labor ($200) = $541.98 to have both rears replaces and installed.

Is this a good price, should I go with the Lexus O.E or what the Lexus dealer may provide to the shop I would have the work done with?

Lastly, this isn't my first car and have changed/modded my past cars (Honda/Acura) before, is the Lexus just about the same course?
Note* This is my first Lexus (2014 IS250 F sport @ 47k).

Any suggestions, advice would be helpful...
I no longer have spring compressors so thought the labor+install reasonable and of course, help my health in regards having to get under the car and lift parts...

I just like some thought on the price charged and the Shock question (O.E vs after market.).
If Fsport model does NOT have any difference on the rear... then what aftermarket is ideal/comparable or better with an affordable price? I, was also thinking... maybe I can get my shocks online and bring it for the labor/install.

Thanks!

Question you should be ask is what do you want to do with the vehicle, performance, comfort, or looks? And are you looking to just change out the rears only or all 4 corners?

Most shops charge about $200 for all 4 corners. With 47k miles, it might not be a bad idea to change out all 4.

I don't think IS250 vs F sport had different shocks since it didn't have variable shocks, i believe it was only different on is350. Not 100% sure.

You could get the F sport shocks (not the ones from F sports models) for about same price.

the factory F-Sport shocks that your car comes with are Tokicos.

Why not get aftermarket? BC racing coils are double the price but you get brand new coils for all 4 corner. Better handling and lower height.

No, I am not asking from a perspective on just coming into modifications. I am asking about the O.E shocks, F sport model and how F sport shocks vs non F sport shocks differ. I want to be aware of the F sport modes and if it would be effected if I choose to go with an aftermarket brand vs O.E F sport model shock. In addition, if the shock price/quote is reasonable compared to other's experience...

Also, I believe its is GS350 that has the AVS, and it would have to be an add on option as well.
As for IS350, I don't know, but aren't AVS from a GS350 - similar or same as the F sport versions of a IS? If not, then is the "Eco,Normal and Sport" modes on an IS, only modulating the A/F ratio and steering feel? I had the impression, the F sport = the suspension or shock is stiffen too; due to the F sport "modes"? If its true, then - it is why I asked about the O.E shocks... if its non F sport and no sport modes... then I can see how a aftermarket and non-aftermarket shock "NOT" to make any difference or be effected by any built in electronics....

If the rear shocks are just stand alone w/o any mode modulations, then aftermarket be fine... but then which...
If it does matter, then I would just get them replaced with O.E at 170 ea. (based on the shops quote). However, I will inquire about having all 4 changes if the labor price is set at $200.

Also, your last part
"You could get the F sport shocks (not the ones from F sports models) for about same price."
Got a link of the F sport model vs F sport shocks? what throws people off here; including me... is why have F sport shocks, but not include them on F sport models? Can anyone explain this - as to why Lexus did this? Sell an F sport model without F sport shocks? Its like saying... Honda selling a Type R without the LSD transmission.

Thanks~

I rather just change what needs to be changed. I do not planning on putting any serious modifications to this car.
Also, I prefer not to spend too much if not needed.

Lets keep this simple,

2014-2016 IS350 F sport came with AVS, however the IS250 F sport did not. They are similar if not same as the one's on GS350. Now with that said, I am not 100% sure if IS250 and IS250 F sport had the same shocks. I don't see why they would use different shocks.

Lexus offered an accessory of F sport non AVS shocks along with F sport lowering springs from the dealership, but not as an option. These are different from the Factory AVS IS F sport shocks, They no longer show on their website. but you can still purchased it from the dealership or other vendors. I only offer this options since it does not have AVS and price is about the same as factory shocks with better performance.

Just remember, you can not just change out the rears if you are going with different shocks or aftermarket from the front, all 4 needs to be changed.

Still under warranty? Not mentioned in posts. Mileage you are, but not sure when car was purchased.

The one you shown is for 2013 (2nd Gen).
However, to your point - your saying... the stock F sport models, such as mine. It does not have AVS, ok got that - but in addition... its not an F Sport shock, rather, its slightly different even though on the F-Sport model.

If correct, I think Lexus did this kind of shady, or to make a bit more with the option for the F Sport shock, rather then just shocks on F sport model(s).
If this is what you mean, then I can expect my understanding it correct.

In this case, https://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-OEM-F...lWomQ0&vxp=mtr

Is a F SPORT rear shock for 2014 IS 250, meaning the shock is a F Sport version, as opposed to a NON-Sport shock, but on the F sport models?
*Basically, Lexus has two different shock, though it can come in the F sport models (one as out of the box vs optional version) ?

Does Lexus cover shocks when 47k?
If so, I can take it to Lexus and see if they can replace it freely based on Lexus O.E warranty.
Note* I did not purchase my IS250 new from a Lexus dealer, rather, I got it from another NON-LEXUS dealer.

The basic Lexus Warranty is for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Blown shocks are most certainly covered - had one replaced myself - see here. Good luck.

Basic warranty is with the car - and transfers from owner to owner until warranty has expired.

*If a vehicle is sold prior to the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty the terms stated above will remain in effect regardless of ownership.

How many miles did you have when it blew? Lowered?

I ended up taking it into Lexus, and got them to replace that one "covered under 50k warranty".
