Question parking brake question (yes i searched)

have been slowly re-assembling my interior (bought the car stripped).. got the e-brake mounted back up and the connector plugged in, brake warning light on dash is on- BUT, if I push DOWN on the handle itself (towards the floor) the light goes off. but as it sits, the light is on.

so the question is, is there any way to adjust the handle downward

The ebrake handle has a white plastic part (circled in the image below) which slides over a metal stopper. On my car, that plastic part had come loose one one side, which didn't allow the brake lever to rest on the stopper correctly. This made the brake light remain lit even though it was not engaged.
