Default Pedal dead zone with LS400? Look here

Just replaced used stock toyota pink brake pads with new Wagner QC665 and the brake pedal feel much better. The initial brake pedal dead zone is almost gone now and the car slows rapidly with only moderate pressure. This new setup with LS400 calipers is very sensitive to brake pad material height. This is due to 4 pistons vs 2 pistons, hydraulic fluid has to fill up double the volume to get the same travel. The point of this trick is that I filled and bled the system with worn out pads and replacing them w new pads, I eliminated the free float distance that the pads have to travel to reach the rotor thus removing the dead zone in pedal feel. This effect would be minimal if you were starting out with new pads in the first place.

The pads should drag on the rotors and not have any extra distance to travel after the first time they're applied. Am I missing something?

I've been running the Wagner ThermoQuiets with my LS400 fronts and SC400 rears and am quite pleased with them.
