regarding this shimmy problem

try to re trq the bolts for the mounting positions for front lower control bar as well as the bolt that conn the lower control/thrust bar to the unibody.. i do mine usually once every 6weeks or , believe it or not it does lossen a bit with agressive driving as well when susp has been modded

i have done it and has worked to lessen the vibration quite a bit

but overall its a design flaw in the car , all cars have it or something similar.. the guy i bought this gs from had a brand new 745i with oem 19 and i say brand new ,, he took my for a ride in it on the hwy and shimmy and vibration was def there from 60 mph to say around 80 or so , thats a 100k car just bought and shimmies,, also last year i test drove a 2000 xjr (supercharged jaguar v8) had about 18k miles on it price was about 60k , from the time i drove out of the lot onto the hwy and back shimmed like crazy but was the design of the car was told

thats the price for performance i guess

I thought it was just my car, but obviously not...

I too have a shimmy at exactly 60MPH... when I get to the higher speeds, the shake goes away..

I too have this issue with my new wheels. After 3 balacings my friend that does it for me thinks I need hub rings. Also I just figured out I have a warped rotor and it is so bad that on the highway it is banging against the pad causing even mor shimmy. I figured this out because I washed my wheels and then 2 hours later my drivers side wheel was covered in black brake dust and all the others were still clean. I am replacing the brakes soon and will update everyone to see if the shimmy goes away.

Default shimmy

had this problem on my 98gs400, back and forth to the dealer, new tires, new wheels, alignments , balancing, etc. each time i told them, there is something wrong in the rack and pinion/power steering, its not the cold tires, or the road rash on the rims, that makes the steering wheel act like it has parkinsons. finally i threatend lemon law, and low and behold they replaced the rack and pinion and the problem was gone.there is a technical service bulliten out about this problem, that they dont like to share with customers. be persistent this shouldnt be happining on this kind of car and they know it.

Default shimmy

no , i had this done after the car was out of warrenty, but it had started when it was under warrenty, now have 90000 miles and my steering is so solid that i can hold a cigarette in my steering hand on the wheel and the smoke doesnt even shimmy. they said the problem was in the power steering pump but they replaced the whole system foor free. and when i gave them a hard time about my pain and suffering at having to deal with this thing the gave me a free service visit.
