Default Rotor Removal

hey guys,
im installing rotors for the first time in my 2is. Been having a lot of brake system issues recently (if you havent been following my posts!) Just wanted to know is there any surprises or things I should look out for when removing the rotors?

-Do I need to disconnect the brake line or can I just pop off the caliper?
-Is it just 2 screws that hold the rotor in place?
-Any suggestions on placing the new rotor in?

front or rear rotors? but either way you dont need to remove brake lines. yes, its two bolts holding the caliper brackets to the knuckles. i hope you're replacing the brake pads as well.

No need to remove the brake lines and I'm pretty sure there are multiple DIY threads already posted on brake repair on CL. You basically remove the wheels, Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place and then slide the rotors off. Shouldn't matter if it's front or rear as the removal is pretty much the same.

Here is a youtube video on how to change the front rotor and back rotor. This helped me when I was changing my rotors.

I dont think there are any bolts holding the rotors on. You might be referring to the two 8mm bolts you will need to remove the rotor. This is a big help if your rotors are rusted on and hard to remove. Other than using a hammer to knock it off due to the rust, use two 8mm bolts (find them at any hardware store) and it slowly pops off with hardly any effort.

calipers are bolted on and rotors may need to be hammered out.

I replaced my rotors and I don't remember any bolts holding the rotors in place. They just pop right off with a little force, no need for hammering them out.

hammering the rotor is a bad idea while you could use 8mm bolt to get it off. Much more safer and won't damage the bearing.

so just to be clear, all I need to do is:
1) take off wheel
2) take out two bolts in the back of the caliper (anyone know the wrench size?)
3) the rotor is free for removal?

^Yes! Though the rotor might be slightly tough to remove due to rust. So just give it a couple of whacks with a rubber/plastic mallet and that should loosen it up.

I think the caliper bolts are 14MM.

awesome! I notice you reply to a lot of my threads so just wanted to personally say thanks. I'll be doing it this week and just bought premium centric rotors for the rear and ctek centrics for the front.

I found taking the springs off the brake pads to be a little annoying/confusing I must admit!

yes use a mallet..... since you're in new york. there may be rust and will take some force to take off. if rotors are bad it wouldn't matter what kind of hammer you use. smack the bad of the face of the rotor with hammer/mallet, whatever you got.
