Hello,

Just purchased 99 gs4 past Sunday. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions to my question. When I am driving my GS4 , be it on highways or on local roads, my steering wheel would pull/jerk sharply either to left or right once in awhile Is this a common thing? I have 17" OEM chrome wheels/Faulkin 235/45/17. If this is not common occurance, this is what I have checked so far. At first, I suspected a crowning or uneven local road surfaces but noticed this was happenning while driving on highways as well. I then checked tire tread and tire pressure for any problems but it checked out ok. I then had a local shop lift it and take a look under the car but nothing wrong can be found. Any ideas?

As for my GS4--Great car!! GS4's power reminds me of T/A GTA I used to have and the ride is unbelievably smooth (hell of lot better than Q45 I got rid of)

Tires, tires, tires, I had that same problem too on the hwy where the wheel would just jerk on its own. I just changed tires and it doesnt do that anymore.

I say it could be the road, and the tires and maybe your brakes. allignment is prob the biggest thing. I just found out the other day that i have a broken band in one of my rear tires, i was very happy about that. oh joy. But just get the basic things checked i suppose. I have to drive an hour or so to get my car alligned and balanced.

JacobT , Jyoo & Fireball- Thanks for your quick reply!!

I will have a local shop do the alignment and if that does not correct, then replace tires. (have at least 75% tread left )

Thanks again.

I just changed from Good year GT+4 to Michelin pilot sports A/S
.....wow....what a difference.....
quiet.....smooth....lots of grip and it feels like I am in BMW...
before changing the tires,, I thought I am in Camry...
tire makes big difference.....

it's like

The GS suspension and steering is very sensitive to tire changes it seems. The GS suspension is also easily knocked out of alignment. I believe the alignment and balance needs to be checked pretty much with every oil change.

GS is prone to tramlining (tires following road ruts, grooves, etc). This is, to some degree, a tire issue but it also involves suspension design/engineering (that's not to say the GS has poorly engineered suspension, just that it can be a difficult problem to solve in cars with low profile tires). Careful alignment helps, higher tire pressures help and a different tread pattern can help.

And welcome to CL!!!
