Is it necessary to change the factory struts when changing to lowering springs.
I'm a total novice at this stuff

to answer your question, eventually, yes. you're shocks will wear faster as a result of less shock travel with lowering springs

It depends on the springs and how much the springs drop your ride.

I went with NF210, one of the smallest drops available and my stock shock blew in a week. I regret buying spring because with the cost of struts and springs. I could of had EZ coilovers

i had the df210's(lower drop) for 3 years+ with stock shocks and no problems. you probly already had a bad strut.
