Default Rotors and Calipers

Was thinking about getting some more aggressive rotors (drilled and slotted) with some nice calipers.

I like the Sewell kit http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2007/1784.html

But that's a lot of money for rotors and calipers. What do you guys recommend for the best bang for the buck. Looking for a known quality manufacture that will give the best bang for the buck.

Thanks.

Do you drive the car on a track?

If not then more "aggressive" rotors won't actually do anything for you, other than wear out your brake pads about 25% faster (and in the case of drilled rotors, crack, if you actually use them hard).

The best bang for the buck in street use are blank OEM replacement rotors.

The best bang for the buck in track use will be slotted (NOT drilled) rotors.

There's never any time, other than a car show or using 60 year old brake pads, that drilled is the "best" at anything.

Didn't know that it will shorten life of the pads if the rotors are slotted. As to drilled rotors, how hard do you have to use them for them to crack? Will it crack in everyday use or only if you slam on the brakes and keep it there because your about get into a collision or something???

If not replacing the rotors, how about some better looking calipers? Something painted?? It's mostly for looks. I don't bring the car to a track.

slotted and drilled both eat pads about 25% faster than blanks... since both provide the same benefit of deglazing the pad on the track (not worth anything on the street) but the slotted ones don't crack like drilled under abuse, slotted is the way to go on the track, understanding you'll shorten pad (but then you'll go through pads quick on a track anyway).

Drilled will probably not crack under normal, light, street use. So if you understand the shorter pad life, and the fact you might have issues if you're ever hard on em (Lobuxracer has posted pics of the cracks he developed in his drilled IS-F brembos from just one track outing for example) and you really want them for looks, go for it. Just understand what you're getting.

Thanks for the info.

How about painted calipers? Maybe I can stick with the OEM and just have someone paint them.
Or is there a place I can order them?

Any good suggestions for that in San Gabriel (626) area?

Search the "Suspension and Brakes" sub-forum for "painted calipers". You'll get tons of threads.
