at what mileage do the ball joints tend to go out?

It largely depends on the road conditions, if your car is lowered, etc. My 99 GS400's ball joints started to click around 125k miles. Some GS fail long before that and some don't have the slightly hints of failing.

my gs has low mileage and it went out at 45k
