It is time to flush the dirty old brake fluid, after reading the factory service manual I am questioning if I need the special tool that flushes the ABS system with a series of pulses before moving on to actually flushing each brake line at the 4 calipers with a friend pumping the pedal etc... Can I just not bother with the ABS flush?
I did it the old fashion way, with a vacuum pump at each wheel...
Are you sure it is that easy? There is a specific method where you have to bleed the fronts first with the key on. As for the rears, just hold the brake pedal and let the abs do the work. Or disable the abs and do it the old fashion way.
If you hold the brakes, the ABS isn't going to be activated. Try it and you'll only get a squirt with one press of the pedal. It doesn't flow out continuously. That's because all four wheels are stopped. ABS only engages if you have some wheels locked up while the others are still in motion.
Yup, they're the Earl set. I ordered a pair for the front calipers. I haven't ordered the rears because I dont know the size/length. I may pull the rears out since i'm bleeding all 4 corners soon. I have 3in of pedal travel before I get any braking power so either I have air, or my master cylinder seal is aged.
I bought replacement bolts from speedbleeder.com it worked like a charm, all you have to do is turn the key to ignition (don't start the car though) and I let the master cylinder pump do the work.
I did rear pass, rear driver, front pass, front driver in that order to get as much old fluid out as possible.
Someone recommended this product years ago on CL...I've had these on my car for many years now.
My solo-bleed is basically the same. I used it this weekend and it was awesome. FINALLY no more mushy pedal!! Now the LS400 calipers shines like it's suppose to
I flushed my break fluid last week @ school.. very simple. As stated in ALL DATA, which our school uses. It say to use a scanner to do it but i did it manually...
Having a friend in school comes in handy.. lol but first things first
turn KOEO( to key on engine off)
start from
-rear right
-rear left
-front right
-front left
always keep in mind the fill the fluid up when it gets low because if u dont and air gets in, your in trouble...
when key is on, pump about 3-5 time and hold it and just let the pressure bleed itself out the bleeder....
(a bottle and a tube comes in handy as well, gets the job done cleaner)
easy as 123... took me about a good 30 minutes or so..
i'll have to get right on it this week as soon as I can find a friend to help. Anyone have any preference for what type of brake fluid? Right now I'm just going to go with ATF-4.
