Im still kinda new to this so if im in the wrong section let me know. But my powersterring just went out on my 92/300. The mech said that it seems like its been low on fluid for to long and it might need a new rack and pinon. has anyone ever had to replace one of these and how much was it all together?
well i guess no one has ever had to replace one before or knows little to nottthin about it like me. Thanks to those that took a gander at the post. If and when i replace it ill respond to my own. Later!
if your system is low on fluid the rack doesnt go bad. it will always have some fluid in it and wont wear out due to that reason. working at a shop strictly specializing on toyota/lexus cars i have never had to change a rack on an SC. i worked there for 3 years on and off. power steering pump yes but not the rack. what makes you think the rack itself is bad? if you are low on fluid the bearings in the pump can go bad and make noise.
of course the rack can go bad after time but i havent seen one. good luck
