The bolts they provide are fine. It's the torque spec that's screwy.

GSteg is right. I have no reason to doubt the quality of the bolts provided by EXACT MS. I just bought new ones to ensure the bolts were not yielded due to excessive preload.

The other point was that good quality Grade 12.9 bolts are not immune to failure due to shock loading. In other words, just because the bolt broke doesn't mean it must have been "bad".

so far so good. no issues. i retorqued the bolts to 105 lbs. i figure thats enough for just about any bolt.

When I got my new bolts from Exact... I just torqued them to 100 or 105 ft/lbs...can't remember which... since they never gave any reasoning to why they chose 120....

ive taken them off my old gs, and put them on my current gs, no issue. have had them for a while now. i just had them retorqued to 100 ft lbs. should be plenty enough. exact probably suggested 120 as its what is rated for that bolt grade. if anything, they probably just oversaw it as something minor to write down on their site and instructions and didnt think much beyond that.

haha, i remember looking into this as the torque spec was in question. when i looked into the grade for the bolt, i remember reading the bolts handling to 120ft lbs. my guess is that exact read that as the bolts should be torqued to 120 ft lbs and just transferred the info over. the stock bolts are meant to be 80something ft lbs no? so going to 100 is already well over compensating.

The 2GS uses 12mm bolts...with grade 12.9, the max torque is 100 ft/lbs. Beyond that, it permanently stretches and could break. That is why its NOT good to re-use fully torqued/tensioned bolts (buying used RCA kits).

We will never know why EXACT recommended 120 ft/lbs....its all speculation at this point, unless they post up.

Btw...the spec sheet for the OEM 12mm bolt is 81 or 82 ft/lbs....and probably a grade 10.9 bolt.

Quote: Hmmmm...

OEM bolt length is 34.5 mm + 30 mm RCA = 64.5 mm (minimum new bolt length).

A 70 mm bolt without any washers is too long. Im thinking 70 mm bolt with 5 mm of washers is ideal.
My buddy hooked me up with some of these EXACT RCA... but i worry about the bolts... so i decided to buy new ones incase.

I called them and wanted to buy replacements but was not treated so well. (i did not find this thread before i called them.)

so here i go looking for it.. and placed the order for this. i tried my best to match the one i got...

Here is what i found. I took your advice and bought the thickest lock washer available because they never had lock washers by design.

Here are the specs:
