Steering shimmy - Help please
I still have a steering shimmy under braking after replacing the left upper control arm and front pads/rotors. Do the upper control arms need to be tightened under load? (like my old 525i) Rest of the suspension is tight. Any ideas?
Are your tires older and/or mismatched?
I happed to have a mismatched front due to sidewall puncture (exact same tire turanza ls-v, just 20k miles older). I had a slight shimmy under higher speed braking. I assume because one side was grippier or taller or whatever.
Just replaced all 4 tires including the (only partially used) replacement one, no more shimmy.
Shame to waste 90% of a tire, but I had no use for it.

welcome to the 2gen GS. Wheel shake is a problem that is extremely common. I would check your steering rack bushings as i have the same symptoms, when i hit the brakes over 55mph the wheel shakes a lot. i'm replacing the steering rack bushings because i know my rotors aren't warped any my suspension components are all good.
check the suspension/brakes subforum at the top of the 2gs forum and look at the sticky for the DIY on changing the bushings.
