Default Brake experts only, step inside...

Im having trouble with my 99 GS 300. I have a pull to the right when I hit the brakes. The car has been doing this for several months. I have pulled the pads off today and noticed that ONLY the LEFT side, inner pad was worn pretty good. All three other pads were fine. I will be changing pads today hopefully. What is causing the pull and the abnormal wear?

Any help would be appreciated,
Gears

sounds like a 2step process.
1)Something wore out the inner driver-side pad. A guess is the brake job was not a full brake job and the caliper slides were not serviced and relubricated, or a piece of brakepad hardware was not replaced during reassembly.

2) Since the driver side brake is now less effective, normal braking now causes the pull to the right?

sounds plausible?

Default I'm no expert

But sounds like a seized caliper to me, might not be fully seized but the slides might be worn or not greased, try rebuilding your calipers, i think the kit is about $45.

Yes

Guys from another site say the left side caliper is stuck or I have a bad brake hose. What do you think?

Thanks for all of the responses. The problem turned out to be that BOTH caliper pins have siezed in their bores and therefore not allowing the caliper to move. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to get them out. They will not move via hammer nor will they turn via impact.

Autozone sells two kits, but I was just going to buy a rebuilt caliper from them before I found out the pins were bad. The rebuild kits range from $22-34 and a new caliper is $82 after core.

I hope this helps,

definitely try lubing the pins and the ears of the pads (the part of the pads that slide in the caliper). could also be a caliper beginning to seize.

I plan on having the pins drilled out as they will not come out. As a back up plan, I may need to get a new bracket for the caliper if I can't get the pins out. What I need to know is if these brakes are common to other cars, like Toyotas so I can check some wrecking yards?

Any help would be appreciated,

Have you tried penetrating oil or other fluid before turning to drastic measures? Maybe needs a good soaking and some more time to loosen it up.

You know, I feel silly for not trying that earlier. I know better! I guess I was focused on getting my wife's car going. I talked to some guys at work today and they suggested the same thing as well. I will probably get the part back tomorrow and try it. I already have a can on PB blaster in the shop.

Thanks for your wisdom,
Gears

Sounds easier said than done. They can really be in there, but try to have a 1/2" breaker with a 14mm socket.

Update: Took the bracket to a Machinist and he could not get the Caliper pins out. I went to a Junk yard yesterday and got another bracket for $20. The "new" bracket should be going on today.

Wish me luck,
Gears

haha. that's probably the easiest option. you shouldn't run into any problems. all you need are new pins.
