Default worn out brake pads

my brake pads are completely worn out, my appointment at lex to get them changed and rotors machined is next week (earliest they could fit me in) , how badly will i damage my rotors if i keep driving?? i can hear a slight scraping sound now when i apply the brakes. is it ok since im gettnig the rotors machined? or will i cause irreparable damage?

na not really, you could probably go a couple of months with that grinding, its just more damage to the ears then to the rotors.

Does our car have an indicator, either audible or an idiot light, to signal the need for pad replacement before the rotors are damaged?

yeah, there is a little metal piece in the brake pad that will start to touch the rotor when the pad is worn down enough. when that starts happening, id say around 1k left? maybe 2

Thanks. Glad I didn't wait to hear it, though. I changed my brake pads yesterday at 26,000 miles. The squeaker is only on the inside pad, but my outside one wore a bit faster, and looked like it only had enough material left to last a few hundred miles before chewing up the rotor. Inside pad was worn too, but I'm not sure it's squeaker would have started singing in time to save me.

are you talking about front brakes or rear?

I replaced mine at the dealer warranty at 36k on IS350 with 25%left.
Same thing on the IS250 at the same mileages, but 85%left.
We are still running our rear stock brakes but wonder how long they will last.

In my case, front.

Brake pads are considered a wear item and are not usually covered by the warranty, so I assume you got them replaced with the low dust pads under excessive dust TSIB?
