Default Tools needed for full brake job?

This sounds funny, but I'm familar with doing brake jobs on other cars, but I'm buying a GS400 and have to change the rotors and pads before driving it home. Just wondering which sockets/box wrenches to bring, 14mm I think is what I read to remove the calipers correct? Any tips would be appreciated.

I wanna say it's a 14mm you need for the calipers, you'll also need a C-Clamp to push the pistons back into the caliper. You'll probably need something to place across both pistons when pushing them back, otherwise one will try to push out as one goes in. Rotor comes right off once the calipers are removed.

Hope this helps.

17mm bolts for the calipers.

Whenever I do a brake job, I always open up the bleeder bolt so I can push out the pistons. Not doing so can damage your master cylinder, as i'm sure you already know. After that, I bleed the brakes.

However, our master cylinder is altogether with the ABS motor so if the MC breaks, you're going to have to replace the whole unit, which is about $1800 on our car. Weird how we have it as one unit where most other Lexus have the ABS and MC as two seperate unit

Aren't the back caliper bolts 17mm and the front 14mm?

You know what, it might be 14mm.

I'm trying to think where I got the 17mm from. You would think from doing so many brake jobs, I would remember. Let me go double check.

Ah okay I know where the 17mm comes from.

the 14mm is what you remove to open up the top of the caliper to change the pads, since our calipers are floating type.

Since the original poster mentioned "remove the caliper", I thought he meant the whole caliper from the mounting bracket, in that case it would be 17mm. But if you're just changing the pads, 14mm is all you need to open up the top (remove 1 bolt only) and it should flip over. You can then easily pull the pads out.

Thanks, well actually I will be removing the caliper to remove the rotor, so I will take a 17mm with me.
