Default Problem with EDFC - it looses it's memory settings if the car is sitting for more....

Anyone else having this strange problem with your EDFC?

If my car sits for 2 days (not 1 day), the EDFC looses it's memory settings. I start the car and notice that the damn EDFC is not even on. I proceed to turn it on and none of my 3 memory settings are there anymore. They are all at 0 0.

If the car sits for only 1 day - when I start it, the EDFC comes on and my memory settings are there.

I checked the cables going to it and they are nice and tight. Anyone else had this problem before and what did you do to fix it?

Try hooking up the yellow wire to a different constant hot source, heck run a long extension wire directly to the battery just temporarily .

You may have tapped a hot source that does not supply a constant +12 over time.

Doing what I said will prove if it is the wire you tapped or something wrong with the EDFC.

Thanks Glen, I will try that.

If memory serves me correctly the hot source I tapped into is either the 12 volt source in the dash for the cigarettle lighter or the second one in the armrest. I am pretty sure it is the one in the dash though.

Cigarette light power is switched so most likely if you used that as the source it explains why the settings get cancelled.

See this does not make any sense as it has worked flawlessly before for almost a year.............

It does not make any sense why it has suddenly started acting this way.

Could it be possible that there is a memory backup battery in the EDFC like a computer(desktop pc) has. Once the battery is used up, the memory will be erased if the power source is removed since there is no longer backup power to save the settings.

The EDFC will loose the memory if both the constant and acc power is cut off, so I don't think there is a battery inside it.

Not yet. Hopefully when I am done with the Nav, I will get it rewired.
